A sex-stratified trans-ancestral meta-analysis of GWAS for ischemic stroke
Men are not mice, but neither are they women. In other words, (biological) sex matters. This is evident in cardiovascular disease: plaque erosion is more common in women, whereas men have rupturing plaque. Intriguingly women often present with ‘stable’ plaques, but still have symptoms (that is a heart attack or stroke).
